Angels rebound to edge A's

07/25/2007 - Anaheim, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Maicer Izturis hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth after Francisco Rodriguez blew a three-run lead in the top half as the Los Angeles Angels edged the Oakland Athletics, 7-6, in the finale of a three-game set.

Trailing 6-3, Oakland tied it with three runs in the top of the ninth off Rodriguez (4-2). Travis Buck started the rally with a double to center and scored on Nick Swisher's fielder's choice grounder. Rodriguez forced in another run with a bases-loaded walk to Mark Kotsay and Marco Scutaro tied it with a sacrifice fly to right.

Los Angeles, though, won it in the home half. Casey Kotchman singled to left with one out and, after Gary Matthews grounded out, advanced to third on a passed ball. Izturis then drilled a 2-1 pitch to left off Joe Kennedy (3-9).

Angels starter John Lackey went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.

Chone Figgins and Garret Anderson drove in two runs apiece for the Angels, who for just the second time in six games.

Oakland starter Joe Blanton was tagged for five funs on 11 hits over six frames.

Mike Piazza homered for the A's, who have lost 12 of 16.

The Angels got on the board in the first. Figgins singled to left with one out, moved to third on Orlando Cabrera's single to right and scored when Anderson singled to center.

The A's tied the game in the second when with one out, Donnie Murphy doubled to left scoring Scutaro who had singled to left and advanced to second on a passed ball.

In the third Piazza singled to left with two out, Mark Ellis walked and Kotsay hit an infield single before Lackey walked Scutaro, giving Oakland a 2-1 edge.

Kotchman's double to right with one-out in the fourth scored Anderson who had doubled to right.

Piazza belted his third homer of the season in the top of the fifth, a one-out shot to center.

The Angels, though, scored three in the home half. Robb Quinlan led-off with a single to center, stole second, advanced to third when Reggie Willits singled, and scored on Figgins' double to right. Cabrera then plated Willits with a ground out to short and Anderson followed with a single to right, scoring Figgins and putting the Angels ahead 5-3.

Figgins' two-out single in the eighth brought home Quinlan, who walked and stole second.

Game Notes

The Angels snapped a five-game losing streak against the A's...Kennedy fell to 1-10 lifetime against the Angels...Attendance was 44,252.
