Edgar Gonzalez (1-2) pitched seven full innings, scattering five hits and one run, fanning seven and not walking a batter. He also singled in two at-bats.

Conor Jackson, Stephen Drew, Chris Snyder and Tony Clark all had base hits for the Diamondbacks, losers in three straight and five of six. Orlando Hudson worked a walk, and has reached base in each of Arizona's 19 games this season.

The Giants got on the scoreboard when Bonds cracked his fifth home run of the season, a lead-off shot to center in the second which travelled an estimated 457 feet. Bonds is now 17 home runs away from breaking Hank Aaron's all-time record.

That would be the only run of the game, although the D-Backs had runners on first and third with two outs before Benitez got pinch-hitter Alberto Callaspo to ground out to end the contest.

The Giants won the season series, 11-8, in 2006...It was the first shutout loss suffered by the D-Backs since a 2-0 loss to LA on September 22, 2006...
