M's activate Lee to make anticipated debut against Rangers

Baseball Betting Lines

04/30/2010 - Seattle, WA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Mariners activated prized offseason pickup Cliff Lee from the 15-day disabled list to make his first start in a Seattle uniform in Friday's series-opener against Texas.

Lee, who the Mariners acquired from Philadelphia for three prospects in December, began the season on the DL with an abdominal muscle strain suffered on March 15 during a spring training game.

Lee was 7-9 with a 3.14 earned run average in 22 starts with Cleveland last year before getting dealt to the Phillies, for whom he went 7-4 with a 3.39 ERA in 12 regular-season starts. The 31-year-old southpaw then posted a 4-0 record with a 1.56 ERA in five postseason starts, recording both wins for Philadelphia in the World Series.

The 2008 American League Cy Young Award winner joins righty Felix Hernandez to form one of the best 1-2 rotation combos in the majors.

To make room on the roster, the team optioned pitcher Shawn Kelley to Triple-A Tacoma. Over six games out of the bullpen this season, he went 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA.
