Nelson Cruz added three hits and scored two runs for the Rangers, who ended a three-game losing streak.

Texas starter Kameron Loe (1-0) pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings and gave up just three hits. He also struck out five and walked one.

Joe Kennedy (0-2) started for Oakland was tagged for one run on three hits in five innings.

Nick Swisher, Eric Chavez and Mark Ellis had the only hits of the game for the Athletics, who were looking to win their fifth straight game.

After three scoreless innings, the Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the fourth after Mark Teixeira's single to center scored Jerry Hairston Jr., who walked to start the frame and moved to second on a base hit by Ian Kinsler.

Texas continued to lead until the Athletics threatened in the seventh. Travis Buck walked to start the frame and Bobby Crosby followed with a fielder's choice. After Todd Walker fouled out, Crosby swiped second to move into scoring position. Joaquin Benoit then got out of the jam after Ellis grounded out.

A sac-fly by Hairston plated Cruz in the home half of the seventh to make it 2-0.

Texas put the game away in the eighth after scoring five runs off Jay Marshall. Teixeira doubled to right with one out and Sammy Sosa was intentionally walked. Hank Blalock grounded into a fielder's choice and Cruz singled to left scoring Teixeira. Kata then blasted a three-run homer to make it 6-0. Gerald Laird then reached on an error and scored two batters later as Kinsler laced a single to right to score Laird and make it 7-0.

Game Notes

Texas finished with 10 hits...Before the game, the Rangers designated pitcher Bruce Chen for assignment and purchased the contract of Willie Eyre from Triple-A Oklahoma...Oakland left seven runners on base.
